Should you repair or rebuild an AI-built app?
A practical decision guide for founders weighing a focused repair, component replacement, workflow rebuild or a simpler alternative.

Practical guidance
Start with the cause, not the tool that wrote the code.
An AI-built app does not automatically need a rebuild. Start by identifying the failure, the constraints and the work needed to reach an agreed result. The name of the coding tool does not answer those questions.
In our inquiry attribution example, a focused validation repair addressed the reproduced failure. That is evidence for that workflow only, not proof that every app is suitable for a small fix.
Practical guidance
Compare the options against the actual workflow.
| Option | When to investigate it | Evidence needed |
|---|---|---|
| Focused repair | The failure is isolated and the surrounding workflow behaves as expected. | Reproduction, confirmed cause, bounded change and regression checks. |
| Replace a component | One integration or subsystem prevents the required behavior. | Platform limits, alternative fit, data movement and integration checks. |
| Rebuild a workflow | The current design cannot support the required task reliably within an acceptable repair scope. | Written requirements, working reference behavior, migration plan and cost comparison. |
| Stop or simplify | The expected benefit does not justify the work, or an existing tool meets the need. | Business priority, ongoing costs and a simpler alternative. |
Practical guidance
Compare the cost of the result, not just the code change.
Include investigation, implementation, test data, regression checks, deployment, data migration and ongoing support. A small patch may carry a large release burden; a replacement may create migration work that a headline estimate leaves out.
Ask each proposal to state the same acceptance checks, exclusions, responsibilities and unknowns. If the cause is still unknown, start with a bounded investigation rather than pretending the repair estimate is certain.
Practical guidance
What a useful diagnosis should leave you with.
- The reproduced problem and its business impact.
- Established causes separated from hypotheses and unknowns.
- The proposed option and why the alternatives were rejected.
- Scope, acceptance checks and deployment considerations for the next step.
- A reason to continue, change direction or stop.
AFK³’s diagnosis is a paid engagement for one agreed workflow. Repairs and support are quoted separately. You can use the findings with another developer.
Your next step
Start with one workflow.
Tell us the task that breaks, the app’s stack, its business impact and your intended deadline. A fit discussion comes first. Paid diagnosis, implementation and optional support are scoped separately.
