How to hand over an AI-built app for repair

A practical checklist for founders: prepare a reproducible problem, code inventory, demonstration data and acceptance checks before an app review.

Practical guidance

Describe one task someone needs to complete.

Start with the user, the action and the expected result. “Fix the app” is hard to investigate. “A staff member saves a booking, sees a success message, then cannot find it after reload” provides a checkable starting point.

  • Which role is affected, and in which environment?
  • What exact steps lead to the failure?
  • What should happen, and what actually happens?
  • Does it happen every time? What changed recently?
  • What business activity is blocked?

Use synthetic records and redact screenshots. Keep the original error message where it is safe to share.

Practical guidance

Make a small handover inventory.

Information to collect before investigation
ItemWhat to record
CodeRepository, branch, commit and the commands used to run the app.
PlatformFramework, runtime, hosting, database and relevant integrations.
ConfigurationVariable names and their purpose. Share secret values only through an agreed secure channel.
Test environmentHow to create demonstration data and which test accounts or roles are needed.
OwnershipWho controls the repository, hosting, domain and third-party accounts.
Recent changesLast working version, relevant deployment and existing checks.

Do not paste passwords, API keys or customer records into an inquiry. Arrange owner-authorized access after scope is agreed.

Practical guidance

Write the acceptance check before asking for a fix.

Example: “Create a demonstration booking, reload, and confirm the same record is visible to the authorized staff role. If saving fails, show a useful error rather than a success message.”

Agree separately on duplicate submissions, permissions, notifications and delivery if those are part of the workflow. List excluded integrations and untested devices instead of treating them as covered.

For a deployment, identify who approves release, how to return to the prior version and how data changes will be handled. A rollback plan for code alone may not reverse a database migration.

Your next step

Start with one workflow.

Tell us the task that breaks, the app’s stack, its business impact and your intended deadline. A fit discussion comes first. Paid diagnosis, implementation and optional support are scoped separately.
